Our new principal, Shalini Singh Hamilton will join us soon. She was expected to have joined us already. However, her joining has been postponed due to a family emergency. We are excited to welcome her from the beginning of the next academic year. Shalini is an experienced school leader and comes to us from her previous position as the principal of The Gaudium School in Hyderabad.

We are nearing the end of CBS’s first, offline and eventful academic year. From 27th March 2023 onwards, we are introducing changes in our leadership structure, as part of our strategic initiatives. The CBS team will have a new experienced Principal as the leader of everyday activities at school, and I will continue as the director. We will lead as a close-knit team. The principal’s main task is to ensure the quality of the academic deliveries according to the board standards (ICSE and MYP) and extend the partnership with our parent community

From the next academic year, Chaman Bhartiya School will teach three curricula: from Early Years to grade 5, we will continue following our own ‘We Lead’ curriculum, which will prepare the learners for both the ICSE and the MYP curriculum, as well as developing leadership qualities and 21st-century competencies. From grade 6, the parents and learners will choose either the Indian ICSE curriculum or the International MYP curriculum.

We inaugurated our state-of-the-art AI lab, which is equipped with cutting-edge technology and softwares. The AI lab is a unique addition to our school’s infrastructure. It allows students to explore the vast possibilities of artificial intelligence.

EY SOLAR SYSTEM EXHIBITION
We recently organised a Solar System Exhibition for our EY learners, where they had the opportunity to construct innovative models and craftworks depicting the solar system. Through this parent child activity, they created models and informative charts with vibrant colours, decorations and recycled papers. Through this engaging activity, they gained a deeper understanding of the workings of the solar system, planets and space. Our learners exhibited outstanding presentation skills and logical reasoning abilities during this event. This exhibition provided them with a platform to express their creativity while also helping them improve their communication skills and confidence.

The Connect
The current year’s theme for Project-Based Learning (PBL) is water. We started of the new year by having a seminar on water where facilitators gave talks from various streams like science & technology, languages, history, landscapes of water, music, theatre, dance, art of water, use of water in religion and war, etc. We additionally invited guest speakers to talk on the topic of water conservation and hydroponics. Learners gained an insight and were inspired as well as empowered to choose a topic to begin their PBL project on.

Water Seminar – PBL
This year, we have selected the theme of water for PBL. We flagged off the event by having a seminar on water where facilitators gave talks from various streams like science and technology, languages, history and landscapes of water, music, theatre, dance and art of water, use of water in religion and war, etc.

Importance of Mental Health in Education
Education on mental health provides necessary awareness and resources for students. Additionally, it can promote efforts for treatment and recovery. Over the last two years, most schools have been conducting classes with a hybrid model due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only does it change the way a child learns and stores information, but it also has an effect on the child’s interaction with teachers and peers on a personal level. Therefore, the process of adapting and adjusting to this new way of learning and engaging has had a considerable impact on the mental health of students.

Inauguration of the Innovation Lab at Chaman Bhartiya School
The Innovation Lab at Chaman Bhartiya school is a destination that facilitates hands-on learning. It gives students the opportunity to apply in real-life the knowledge that they have learned in the classroom. It fosters curiosity, critical thinking, innovation and allows students to “experience” science. The Innovation Lab hosts LEGO® education, space education, robotics, coding, 3D printing, aero-modelling, agri-tech and skills development (carpentry, drilling and soldering).

Chaman Bhartiya students invent a solution to clean Bangalore Lakes
Clean the lakes! This Problem-based learning group is passionate about keeping Bangalore lakes clean. They worked together to create a hovercraft, which collects the plastic waste dumped in lakes. Listen to our students on their vision and how they plan on implementing it.

Speaking on student mental health issues, Sandhya said that it is vital to train teachers at identifying symptoms and empower them with the skills and knowledge to approach each learner’s mental health requirements better.

Our Director and Principal Allan Andersen recently wrote an article for the Times of India on the topic ‘The need for open learning spaces to foster creativity & innovation’. He spoke about the importance of inculcating qualities such as creativity and leadership among students and emphasised on shifting to modern, open, student-centric learning spaces. He has proposed ways to create an environment for students to express themselves and feel confident.
