Chaman Bhartiya is a first-of-its-kind K 12 school in Bengaluru
At Chaman Bhartiya, it is our belief, and purpose, that all children can be leaders given the right environment, tools, and support. This is why everything we do here is aimed at helping the child discover their leadership potential through learning, play, and practical implementation.
Our classrooms are active flexible learning spaces which personalise learning
Here’s a glimpse into how we operate, and some of our learning spaces that take education beyond what it has been.
THE SCHOOL BUILDING
The future of every child is dependent on three teachers. parents and
school teachers are the first two. This is about the third teacher, a
teacher not much spoken about, but to us a critical component in the
development of every child. The third teacher we refer to is the school
building. Designed the way it should be, it can dramatically alter how a
child begins to feel and learn.
This magnificent structure is thanks to architect Andrew Daws who
drew his inspiration from some of Europe’s finest schools. He came
back to our studio to create the blueprint behind what you see around
you today. As you walk around, you’ll notice a distinct transparency in
the structure. This invites an openness in all and an urge to share
without holding back. To a child, this induces trust and an invitation to
shed his inhibitions – something every leader needs to.
Do visit the fully airconditioned Multipurpose Hall a place for indoor
games and sporting events, conferences, conventions, school
assemblies and cultural programmes. The steps here too are designed
so that children of all standards can come and share. It’s a place
designed so that one can come and share with the entire school
Now for the little details. There are benches in our cafeteria instead of chairs. Benches get children to come closer together, accommodate and
even share their food. We have a food policy, that ensures children eat healthy, nutritious food in a world-class hygienic environment. There is a
grove of fruit trees just outside from which children can freely pluck fruits from. Imagine the memories that a landscape such as this will sprout.
There is an open air swimming pool for children, near by. The library is stocked and inviting for children. There is an organic garden on the fourth
floor for children to learn the nuances of gardening. We have invested abundantly in technology for children to grasp faster and feed their
voracious appetite for knowledge. And yes, do pay a visit to the Tree House at the entrance of the school. It’s a magical little structure from
where you can see the world from the vantage point of a bird – something no adult or child would want to miss.
The future belongs to leaders who can back themselves with academic excellence. When the future poses its many challenges to our world, our
children will be ready to stand up and deliver. That’s the Chaman Bhartiya Vision.
The Multipurpose Hall has as much potential in it, as the children
who will walk into its spacious environs. This fully airconditioned hall
can become a space for ballet classes and ballet performances, a
place for performers and a place for spectators, it can turn into a
cooking studio and then into a space where children can put up a
science exhibition. Indoor games and sporting events one day,
conferences and conventions the next, school assemblies every other
week, cultural programmes the next, this truly flexible arena will play
a key feature in the schooling of every child.
This facility is 6500 sq.ft in size and can comfortably accommodate
THE TREE HOUSE
There is something magical about a tree house. Perched high above
the ground, it lets you stand and look at the world from a different
vantage point. It lets you be a silent onlooker to the goings on below
The tree house at the entrance of the school is centered around a
replanted tree brought here all the way from Pondicherry. It’s fifty
years old and sprouting fresh leaves as we speak. This magical
experience of being in a little hideaway where you can sit, lie down,
read, relax and contemplate is something we wanted students,
teachers and everyone in the school to experience and enjoy.
Made entirely with sustainable, renewable and recycled materials,
wood from Auroville forests entirely sourced from naturally dead
trees using sustainable forestry practices, this is the gateway to
The library is the heart of every school. Each book in the library is a
conversation a child has with the greatest minds. Each book has the
capacity to open up a child’s imagination. Each book the child opens,
opens up a pathway to her dreams. A library of the greatest minds is
the one place in every school that should be the most inviting place
for any child.
How is it then that libraries are dull looking spaces? The reason is
that libraries were built by adults, for adults. Not the one at Chaman
Bhartiya. They will be storytelling and enactings, play readings and
hours allotted to poetry readings. This is one place a child will want
to run to, and never want to leave.
Our library will have a rich collection of printed and digital books in
different genres and languages
OUR IT INFRASTRUCTURE
Technology is a vital component of the teaching learning process. Digital learning is personalized and developed according to the needs and requirements of the learner. Our digital backbone enables our facilitators to create learning experiences for learners. We have invested in Apple infrastructure to enable children to develop skills in line with our vision, which encompasses the following aspects:
- 1:1 iPad Program: Every student and teacher at Chaman Bhartiya is equipped with an iPad to do his/her academic work. The iPad inspires creativity and hands-on learning that makes learning more powerful. The iPad fosters critical thinking skills as well as communication and literacy.
- The Mac Lab: The lab aims to equip the students in various domains like presentations, video- editing and app development. it also enables students to generate ideas and think innovatively.
- Apple Podcast Centre: The studio is fitted with equipment for audio and video recording. It enables development of media literacy skills in students.
- Everyone can Code: We believe everyone should be able to master the digital language. Learning to code improves collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking skills. At Chaman Bhartiya students from the age of six learn how to code.
- Everyone can Create: The projects under this program guide students to develop and communicate ideas through various creative platforms such as drawing, photography, video and music.
- Digital Professional Development: The IT department, consists of 3 Apple Certified teachers and 6 qualified technical personnel. Each facilitator on joining Chaman Bhartiya undergoes rigorous training for eight hours on ipad usage.
The Innovation lab is a destination where students with staff and mentors can create practical solutions, solve problems, develop skills, as well as talents. Projects designed in the innovation lab not only foster learning through inquiry but also support mental rigor. Collaborative interdisciplinary projects are planned by the technical team designated for the innovation lab along with the facilitators that combines knowledge, skills, techniques and materials for both digital and product design.
Activities at the Innovation lab is aligned with the curriculum and the learning/ academic objectives can be measured. Concepts in the innovation lab are based on the philosophy of hands-on learning through building solutions and prototypes. “Learning through play” is also an approach which is being successfully implemented in the innovation lab. It is a guided activity that has a purpose. It embraces the power of collaboration and empowers students to consult and assist one another as they explore and solve problems using the resources in the innovation lab.
